Tasks, Tests and Surveys (TTS)

Why Can't I Create a Test?

You can create questions, tasks, and survey items ONLY in the Pools area of the too. To create a test, you must first populate a pool with the questions or task you wish students to perform. Then, in the Assessment area, you can create a test or assignment that draws from the pool to deliver a test, assignment or survey to students.

This Tool Doesn't Seem to Be for Assignments

TTT is designed for assignments, even if the naming of some things seems more test oriented.

To create assignments in TTS

      1. Go to Question Pools
      2. Add a pool and define the points it will give each question
      3. Add questions to the pool, including essay questions
      4. Go to Assessments area
      5. Add an assessment and designate it an assignment (this will create an icon that includes the letter A to alert students that it is NOT a test)
      6. Select the assignment pool you just created to draw from
      7. Choose the questions or tasks you wish students to respond to, either as a random draw, or as a static list of questions
      8. Save and publish the assignment, including due dates and other settings
      9. Grade the assignment as it is turned in.
To import you old assignments from the Assignments Tool to TTS
      1. Go to Question Pools
      2. Click Import
      3. Select the Assignments option
      4. Hit all the make it so buttons at the bottom of each page, until you are returned to TTS
      5. The assignments will come in as both pools and assignments
      6. Simply select the publication options for each assignment from the publish sprocket icon and publish the assignment to students
      7. Grade using the grading area of TTS.

Can't Preview My Tests

There are 3 choices for previewing assessments, whether they are tests, assignments, or surveys.

  1. In the list of assessments click the little picture icon to the LEFT of the assessment title
  2. Up at the top of the TTS tool select Test Drive and choose the assessment you want to test drive
  3. Log in with your fake student account and take an assessment as if you were a member of the class.

Corrections to My Pool Won't Show Up in the Test

If the assessment, be it a test, assignment, or survey, is published, it will not reflect changes made to questions from the pool it is drawing on.

To correct error on a published assessment:

    1. In Assessments view, click the double blue pages at the right end of the line for the assessment you wish to alter
    2. This will duplicate the assessment, including all the setting you selected for the published one, but it will be unpublished.
    3. Click the icon to the left of the new copy to preview  the questions and check on the question you wanted to update to see if it reflects the corrections made in the pool
    4. Publish the new test
    5. If the old test has not been taken by students, you can just delete it. If students have already accessed it, you an either adjust student grades in terms of the erroneous question or archive the test. Etudes will not allow you to delete any artifact that contains student work.

Can't Make My New Avatar Show Up

Log out of Etudes, close the browser session and try back in. If the avatar is still not showing the changed picture, just wait a day and check back. Often your new avatar is visible to others before you can see it. This is generally a caching issue and not a true error in displaying your picture.
